Senior Product Manager

Job Summary:

Plans, coordinates, and executes marketing activities for an assigned product line or market space. This position may be focused on upstream activities, downstream activities, or both. Job title is defined by depth and breadth of responsibilities and number of direct reports, if any.

Responsiblities:

  • Facilitates company compliance with all laws and regulations pertaining to physician interaction, education, and promotional activities within the medical device space.
  • The product manager may be assigned upstream and/or downstream marketing responsibilities.

    Upstream marketing responsibilities could include the following:

  • Identifies new product opportunities and assesses them for strategic fit and attractiveness.
  • Utilizes secondary research methods to analyze and assess markets.
  • Conducts primary market research to identify market trends, market gaps, and user needs.
  • Develops and utilizes processes to validate user inputs and convert them into clearly defined product requirements.
  • Clearly defines clinical data, reimbursement, and regulatory approval requirements early in the project cycle.
  • Acts as the primary driver for the development of a ‘business case’ for product development projects.
  • Works closely with R&D, manufacturing, clinical, regulatory, and quality colleagues through all phases of the design control process, including the pre-project project definition phase.
  • Serves as an effective team member on product development teams to perform all project related marketing functions. oManages assigned products from concept through launch.

    Downstream marketing responsibilities could include the following:

  • Manages product life cycle by monitoring, reviewing and responding to all aspects of product/market development including customer needs, product performance, competitive activities, regulatory requirements, and sales tool requirements.
  • Identifies, develops and maintains business relationships with key customers and accounts.
  • Positions and promotes product through product updates, marketing materials, advertisements, and company communications.
  • Responds to product and market inquiries from internal groups, customers and sales personnel through verbal and written communications.
  • Initiates and manages marketing clinical studies.
  • Uses a three-stage process for planning, executing and analyzing key marketing programs to drive a positive ROI.
  • Represents sales & marketing on assigned project teams.
  • Cooperates with upstream marketing personnel to develop and execute comprehensive market launch plans for new products or new market indications.
  • Trains internal and external personnel, as well as physicians, on assigned products.
  • Conducts regular field travel with global sales force to share product, clinical, technical and competitive knowledge to increase competency and effectiveness of global sales force.
  • Develops personal expertise as technical and clinical resource on assigned products and the market.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive long & short range marketing plans to support specific products and market segments; monitors results, develops and implements adjustments required to assure achievement of corporate and S&M strategic goals.
  • Supports upstream marketing efforts related to market analysis.
  • Monitors and analyzes sales data for product and market performance; if necessary develops and collaboratively executes corrective action plan.
  • Monitors, adjusts and maintains revenue forecasting.
  • Creates an annual budget and manages to it while achieving planned objectives.
  • Manages, directs, and develops personnel as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent. 5+ years related healthcare experience in medical device marketing with a background working on product development teams.
  • Experience taking products from concept to launch.

Position will require up to 30% travel including overnight travel and may include weekend travel to trade shows, physician’s symposiums, etc.
